I had the pleasure of attending the viewing of Diarra Bousso’s “two shows in one” collection over the weekend and was visually transported to places such as Istanbul, France, Saudia Arabia and Thailand. Her MINT Spring Summer 2015 entitled “Abstract Cubism” bought with it the architecture of Istanbul and artwork from Balat and Galata with a mixture of color oranges, greens and Turquoise blues. She says ” I wanted to translate all my abstract and beautiful dreams into wearable art” who has been painting since age 5.
A photographer, artist and one time bond trader on Wall Street, Diarra quit her day job after two years to succumb to her passion for art and design to launch her line in 2013. She launched her Dakar Boutique platform alongside her two brands MINT (contemporary ready to wear) and db (couture dresses and premium leather goods) . She has been published in Vogue, Glamour , the New York Times and the HuffPost. Her creations have been worn by celebrities and first ladies around the world . I spoke to Diarra after the show and she could not have been more gracious and enthusiastic about her show.
For her db collection, she was inspired by “Golden Dreams” which focuses on wedding dresses and “African Voyages”. Diarra uses Calais Lace and delicate silks from Thailand.
It was a fun night in NYC! What say you SM fam? If you want to check out more of Diarra’s pieces (which I know you do!), here’s where you can find her…
