KÖKLER’s S/S15 Art and Fashion Exhibit in Milan, Italy

KOKLER s/S15 collection

We know that  the world of fashion and art have an intertwined  history as many  fashion designers find their inspiration from many great artists and vice versa. Fashion week has officially ended in Milan and with that say, I would like to introduce you to KÖKLER,  a fashion brand that takes the world of fashion  to a whole new level when it comes to turning some of the world’s best art pieces into show stopping garments.

ABOUT KÖKLER

A fashion brand that adopts the same creative process applied in the fine arts: research aesthetics, look for inspiration, new shapes and forms with unique pieces  that are  manufactured manually.  It is about transforming artworks and metamorphosing them into wearable fashion items with audacious cuts accentuated by accomplished craftsmen.

While many designers chose the runway to showcase their s/s 15 collection,  KÖKLER chose  to show theirs as an exhibit that tells the story behind each piece. Fans and interested buyers get a  more personal and unique experience by getting a closer look at the collection from concept, design and production.

If you plan to be in Milan in the next few days, stop at the Spazio OBERDAN, Viale Vittorio Veneto 2,  to get a closer look of the exhibit.  It will be open to the public until September 28, 2014. Interested buyers can find the high-end Prêt-à-Porter collection, entirely made in Italy  at the Showroom Pizzini in Milan.

Amsterdam Fashion Week 2014 First Edition

Amsterdam Fashion Week 2014 First Edition

This past weekend,  Amsterdam in the Netherlands was the place to be for many emerging designers. Although, we did not physically cover the event, we were glad to be contacted by the organizers and to get the rundown on the work they do to promote emerging talents.

A few info on Amsterdam Fashion Week and its aim.

AFWA was founded by Diana Tambe, a young designer from Africa known for her red carpet clothing line Black Pearl’s Secret. Due to a need for a platform doing justice to African and African inspired fashion, culture and art in the Netherlands, she founded AFWA.

A unique three-day event organized on an annual basis in the capital city of the Netherlands.  AFWA 2014 aims to emphasize the influence and contribution of African fashion designers in today’s international fashion scene. Never before has this city witnessed such a big multicultural fashion event before.

Africans as well as African inspired designers from the Netherlands and the rest of Europe presented their collections to an international audience in Amsterdam. This year 20 designers were invited to present their collections through inspiring fashion shows, in order to titillate the fashion loving audience.

For more info on how you can sign up for their next event or attend as a fashion blogger or journalist. Visit their webpage here.

Designers’ Resources: DHL Exported &IMG Fashion Contest

DHL Exported

I haven’t done a resources post for quite some time and today, I am happy to announced the DHL Exported and IMG Fashion Contest that will help a couple of designers/brands to turn their dream of  showing their collection during fashion weeks into a reality.

Contest Background

DHL will sponsor a chosen designer for two consecutive seasons at each of the four Fashion Weeks. Designers will receive a guaranteed spot on the schedule along with a funded and produced runway show or presentation. DHL will also underwrite all logistic costs of producing the collection (i.e. international shipping and exporting of hard goods) as well as exporting the collection to New York, London, Milan or Tokyo for the designers’ runway debut.

PFW Event: Fred Marzo Boutique Opening Paris Fall/Winter 14/15 Collection

Fred Marzo Boutique Paris

This week, I had the pleasure to attend the Fred Marzo ‘s boutique opening in Paris. What I like about boutique openings is that you get not only to see the apparel and accessories closer but you get to meet in person the designer behind the brand and hear him talk abou the process behind each shoe and bags.

ABOUT FRED MARZO

Frederick Foubet Marzorati aka Fred Marzo has gained solid experience working with Stephane Kelian, Christian Louboutin and Catherine Sartore owning and perfecting his skills as a shoemaker for the last three years creating collections for three of the big names in the shoe industry.

Inspiration: Vintage reworked, with a clever mix of elegance, the contemporary and sophistication. Creating shoes with a total shift in paradigm that has led to the quality, rarity and attention he devotes to the creation of his pieces.

With that said, for his fall /winter 14/15 collection the designer wanted to use soft fabric, fur with calfskin treated like foal leather, dipped lambskin and python with warm and refine tones that give each shoe a seductive, subtle,  delicate and luxury feel that invite women to not only wear his shoes but to do it with pleasure and confidence. Take a look at his fall/winter 14/15 collection below that also includes clutches. As always tell us your thoughts below.

PFW: Review Sandra Mansour Fall/Winter 14/15 Collection

Sandra Mansour Fall/Winter 14/15 Collection

For her fall/winter 14/15 collection Sandra Mansour was inspired by abstract painter Dorothea Rockburn who was famously known for her interests in the Golden Mean, astronomy, cosmology and her use of light and proportion.

Sandra Mansour Fall/Winter 14/15 Collection

With pleats, enveloped details, overlay and intersecting fabrics, Mansour wanted to bring some masculinity to some of her pieces  with structured box-like bodices, broad shoulders, large sleeve openings, and high-cut, v-necks embellished with bibs.

Sandra Mansour Fall/Winter 14/15 Collection

While masculinity cuts seem to be in as seen on the runway of New York and Paris for next fall, Mansour still wanted to keep a feminine touch in her collection  with pieces that are comprised of lace guipure, silk crepe and ziberline as seen on some of her softer evening silhouettes below.

Sandra Mansour Fall/Winter 14/15 Collection

Overall Mansour’s collection will definitely please fans of the brand and attract new ones. Her silhouettes are soft and feminine  even though she played with proportions and shapes and added some masculine elements to some of her pieces.

PFW: Show Review: Tsolo Munkh Fall/Winter 14 Collection

Tsolo Munkh Fall 14 collection

Today I attended the Tsolo ‘s presentation in Paris. Despite the heavy rain and the cold weather, I wanted to get to know more about this budding fashion designer.  Tsolo has been on the scene since September 2010  when she debuted her first collection alongside Alexandre Vauthier, Manish Arora and Peachoo Krejberg.  For her fall 14 collection, she told me that she was inspired by her country Mongolia. I was blown away by her craftsmanship especially while working with two textures (wool and leather) that she was able to manipulate and  combine together through a technique of folding to create edgy pieces that can resist the harshest winter.

Tsolo Munkh Fall 14 collection

Honesty folks, based on what I saw, I am just wondering how can she top this collection next season because I know for a fact that just like I, many were inquisitive and in admiration of her work.

PFW: Show Review: Christine Phung Fall/Winter 14 Collection

Christine Phung06

Paris Fashion Week is in full swing and this year, I will be attending a few shows/presentations for Sereine Magazine. Today, I attended my first show, the Christine Phung’s  fall/winter 14 collections at les Galeries Lafayette Maison in Paris. Inspired by a line “Everyday life diverts us from the important things” from the book, “An escape to the mountains“, written by  Charlotte Perriand, Phung’s mission was to create a collection that would take our imagination beyond what we routinely do and  Right off the bat, she opened her show with a model dressed in a crop top, tight high-waisted pants, killer boots and ski mask carrying her own ski equipment.

Christine Phung

then a slew of dresses…

Christine Phung 15

Christine Phung 14

A favorite look of mine was a blue coat cinched at the waist accessorized with a chunky scarf.

Christine Phung

Another favorite of mine as well was a nice pair of blue trousers worn with a flowy white blouse.

See a better photo of the silhouette below from WWD.

For an upcoming designer, overall  Phung’s collection was not over the top but accomplished what she was set to do, get people talking and paying attention to her craft. For the next couple of years, we hope to see more from her and who knows  perhaps a collaboration with a few A-list starlets.  See more looks in the video below.

Video: Edwing D’ Angelo Fall/Winter 2014 Runway Show

Edwing D' Angelo NYFW FallWinter 2014 Collection

The Edwing D’ Angelo’s fall/winter 14 collection was inspired by old British aesthetics and aristocracy.  With this collection, the New York based designer explored with simplicity  by expressing and injecting his own point of view into his designs by revisiting colors, shapes and some of the fashion details that originated from that  period. The silhouettes were very modern  with riding attire, for both men and women  as part of the day wear, particularly the redingote made to appeal both genders. Basically it is old British aristocracy meets 2014 era.

Show Review: Dennis Basso Fall/Winter 2014 Collection

Dennis Basso Fall/Winter 2014 Collection New York Fashion Week

Here at Sereine Magazine, we are big fans of Dennis Basso. The man has been in the business for 30 years and celebrated this milestone last February with a phenomenal collection that was followed by a standing ovation from the crowd. One of the main attraction to me every time that I go see his fall collections is the fur.  The furrier knows how to work the most delicate fabric and turn it into a masterpiece.

Considering that some of  Basso’s customers include celebrities such as Brooke Shields, supermodel like Carol Alt, Coco Rocha and socialites, the evening gowns were a big draw for me. Considering that Oscar season is in full swing perhaps we can expect to see a few starlets wearing one of the gowns modeled on the runway comes Oscar night. Leave it to Basso to pair an evening look with over the knees boots. Could that be a new trend?

Inspired by great American contemporary artists, some of his pieces looked like canvases with strategically placed brushstrokes on some of the gowns above and pants below. Dennis Basso Fall/Winter 2014 Collection New York Fashion Week

This silhouette below  says it all and was one of my favorites walking down the runway. I love how he cinched the coat at the waist with a belt. Super elegant.

Basso’s kept the hair simple and the make up to a minimum. When you have pieces like these that are making enough of a statement on their own,  less is more.  At any rate, share your thoughts below on this collection.

Show Review: Edwing D’ Angelo Fall/Winter 2014 Collection

Edwing D' Angelo NYFW FallWinter 2014 Collection

What I like about Edwing D’ Angelo  above is how he is able to keep you excited about his clothes. There is always an element of surprise  and the man knows how to put up a good collection.

The silhouettes were very modern  with riding attire, for both men and women  as part of the day wear, particularly the redingote made to appeal both genders (see photo below). Basically it is old British aristocracy meets the new 2014 era.

With that said, while waiting for official photos, here’s a few stills that you might enjoy.  Cell phones photos are not the best so excuse the quality of the images.

Emerging Designer At New York Fashion Week: Austin Wu

Austin Wu

Who said great designers are only made in Europe or in the US? Taiwanese designer Austin Wu who debuted his first New York Fashion Week collection is proof that we should take a look at what is happening in Asia.

As part of the Asia Fashion Collection,  an  incubation project produced and supported by Vantan and PARCO that aims to contribute to the development of the fashion industry across Asia,  the budding designer known for its digital textile print, well-executed dresses and lines would most likely use this experience as source of  inspiration for his next collection. Until we see more of him in the next few years, check out some of his designs below that were not part of the collection he showed on February 8.
