With her signature blue soles, her shoes were the perfect accessory to set off Project runway season 8 candidate and Project Runway All-Star season 1 finalist, Micheal Costello’s collection of edgy and feminine dresses. If you are interested in purchasing any items from her debut collection, visit her webpage here. Just in case you want a closer look at her runway debut collection, watch the action below.
Zendaya Coleman is the latest star to break out of the Disney caste to tackle more challenging roles in Hollywood. The actress and multi platinum selling singer has currently been named the face of Madonna’s Material Girl line and was chosen to portray late singer Aaliyah in her biopic but has since dropped out of the project. Apparently Aaliyah fans are very protective of her image and who they want to play her but that shouldn’t take away from Zendaya’s talent. Here’s to hoping Zendaya maintains a positive image an branches out in a way that highlights her talents as opposed to another Disney star whose twerking skills or lack thereof overshadows her music! It was nice to hear the 17 year old wants to stay with Disney for now to appeal with her young fan base in her interview with the publication. Check out the recent spread by Flaunt Magazine below where she is rocking looks by J Brand, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and Fausto Puglisi….

Today I attended the Tsolo ‘s presentation in Paris. Despite the heavy rain and the cold weather, I wanted to get to know more about this budding fashion designer. Tsolo has been on the scene since September 2010 when she debuted her first collection alongside Alexandre Vauthier, Manish Arora and Peachoo Krejberg. For her fall 14 collection, she told me that she was inspired by her country Mongolia. I was blown away by her craftsmanship especially while working with two textures (wool and leather) that she was able to manipulate and combine together through a technique of folding to create edgy pieces that can resist the harshest winter.
Honesty folks, based on what I saw, I am just wondering how can she top this collection next season because I know for a fact that just like I, many were inquisitive and in admiration of her work.
See the clothes in this short video below.

Here at Sereine Magazine we are all about emerging designers but we also have love for some established designers as well that we like to feature occasionally. I am a big fan of Edwing D’Angelo and while we are awaiting to see his fall/winter 2014 collection tomorrow, I will leave you with this video that will give you an idea about the kind of work that he does. If you don’t know him, you are missing on something big. Not too many designers design for both men and woman and Edwing is among those that knows how to create great pieces that fit a woman’s and man’s body.
Celebrities like Tyra Banks, Angela Simmons and more are fans of his brand and there is no wondering why.
Fashion weeks are the events that most fashion editors, buyers, socialites, celebrities and bloggers cannot wait to attend. It is the place to be and to be seen. For that matter, some are ready to go the extra mile to get noticed and unfortunately, it is not in a good way. Watch this video below from the Jimmy Kimmel show tapped during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, it is so hilarious that it will have you laughing your but off and ask yourself what were these people thinking! I got a good laugh out of it. As always, let us know what you think in the comment section below.

As Roberte mentioned in an earlier post, it is our endeavor here at SM to highlight and promote top design talent beyond borders. We are heading to Germany to feature designer Dawid Tomaszewski whose dramatic SS 2014 line immediately caught my attention. In keeping with the popular black and white trend ruling the runways, Dawid’s “Lithium” collection took casual elegance to another level. He combined shapes, patterns and textures to create a gorgeous cohesive line that no doubt will have clients lined up at the door. I included a few of my fave looks as well as a video of the show below. Let us know your thoughts below in the description box!
I recently did a post on fashion designer Farai Simoyi but seeing her collection up close was the icing on the cake for me. I love Simoyi’s vision when it comes to dressing women.
Her pieces are feminine, African inspired in homage to her Zimbabwean heritage but also from all of the places she lived and visited. They are very stylish with very modern cuts that will please women, especially those looking for a little sass to add to their wardrobe.
Cut outs have been huge for a couple of seasons (as seen above) and it seems that Simoyi is having fun experimenting with this trend for her summer and fall 13 collection. Many of her pieces are sexy but not trashy. See more looks in the video below and don’t forget to check out her webpage here.
Hi guys, it is Friday, the week-end is finally upon us and I plan on making the best of it after a not so great week. Today’s Friday Favorite is about one of the biggest female groups of all time, “TLC”. As many of you may recall, TLC was really at the height of their career in the 1990 and early 2000’s until, one of their group members Lisa Lopes aka Left Eye died in a tragic car accident in South America.
Like most fans, I was really surprised to hear about the making of the movie by surviving group members Chilli and T-Boz and was not really excited about it. But now after seeing the trailer, I have to say that I cannot wait to see the movie that will debut on October 21 on VH1. If you are a fan of TLC, let me know below if you plan on watching the movie. In other TLC news, the group plans on releasing a new album on October 15. Cannot wait to hear new music from my girls.
Bill Witherspoon took me back to Africa with his colorful, vibrant and energizing spring/fall 13 collection.
Born in North Carolina, Harlem based Witherspoon is not your typical designer and does not make clothes for the fashionably timid. Based on the pieces I saw during his runway show, I would have to agree with him on that statement. It does take a certain type of man to wear his clothes. I was able to capture a few stills of his collection but you can also watch the clothes on the runway in the video below.
At any rate, what do you guys think of his collection?
I absolutely adore vintage era clothing which is why I feel compelled to bring to your attention Another Man’s Treasure located in Jersey City, NJ at 353 Grove Street. I own two vintage pieces from this retailer including a gorgeous 1950’s cocktail dress that is in excellent condition. They also have accessories, shoes, bags a menswear section all from the 1940’s to about the 1980’s. If you are ever in downtown Jersey City and you are looking for that unique item for a special occasion or just to add to your wardrobe then check them out!
For those of us that love fashion and are addicted to fashion reality shows, pop singer Rihanna is bringing her “Styled to Rock” UK show to the US. To built anticipation for it, the singer released a promo for her upcoming series that will make its US debut this fall on the Style Network.
For those not familiar with the concept of the show, according to her press release:
Rihanna will personally select the 12 designers who will compete for the coveted opportunity to dress some of the biggest names in entertainment. To help the designers reach their ultimate artistic potential, Rihanna will enlist the guidance of top experts from the fashion industry to serve as mentors. Each week, challenges will push the designers to their creative limits when they are tasked with styling an A-list star. Each week’s celebrity guest will determine which designer best achieves their vision – and advances to the next week of competition. Faced with the threat of elimination, the remaining designers must meet with the mentors to discuss where they fell short and ultimately who will be sent home. In the end, one designer will be named the winner of “Styled to Rock.”
Watch the teaser below:
Are you guys excited about Rihanna’s fashion reality show? Tell us below in the comment section.
I saw this video about 2 months ago and there was something about it that I was really feeling! I think Janelle tends to be a little out there at times but I appreciate that she is making an actual attempt at artistry and originality. Add Erykah Badu to the mix and the dope level increases x10! What I took away from the message was not new but a good reminder: people will always have something to say about you, good or bad but at the end of the day, we do not dull our abilities and intelligence to make others feel comfortable. Nor do we put others down to make ourselves feel better. I know that this mindset helps build real confidence and shrinks insecurities . Enjoy the video below and have a great weekend!
Last Tuesday, Leah and I attended singer/songwriter Esnavi and Dazzle Dry nail polish launch event at swanky lounge EVR in Manhattan.
As you may recall, last month, I wrote a post about the line that is eco-friendly with no harsh chemicals like formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, camphor and nitrocellulose. A win win for many people who suffer from terrible allergies, and for those looking for other alternatives to what ‘s currently available on the market right now.
The ESNAVI LIVE COLLECTION by DAZZLE DRY features three nail lacquers ( see photos) named after her songs Morning Dew, Oh My! and Planet E, off her album EXIT E. Shop the Esnavi’/Dazzle dry line here.
See more photos of the event and watch the video below courtesy of Esnavi.
A special “Thank You” for Esnavi and her manager for this beautiful event. I love you guys.
