Show Review: Sass Bide S/S 14 Collection

Source: Stlye.com
Source: Style.com

Sass & Bide offered a new perspective for Spring, when they showed yesterday at 250 Hudson St in Manhattan. While many designers are sticking with traditional Spring colors, black was a main feature among various prints. There’s was an eclectic mix of Cleopatra meets fantasy rocker, evident in some of the structured, armor-like tops and intricate details all around. I also dug the unique layering of their skirts! Started in 1999 by a former accountant and an advertising art director (and judging from the photo above very busy Moms!), Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, the brand gained momentum after creating a denim collection more specifically “the east village hipster jean” and launched a RTW line two years later.

Show Review: Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S14 Collection

Source: Style.com
Source: Style.com

Of course we had to report on one of Roberte’s fave designers of all time…Marc Jacobs. After viewing this line, I wasn’t sure if the looks were so wacky they were brilliant or just plain wacky lol. Ever the showman, delved into sequin territory for a few of the looks and paired all of his creations with interesting footwear (white sneakers). Jacobs also featured both mens and womenswear in one collection (a rare venture for designers). I thought the suits were well tailored, paired with the man purse that is becoming a mainstay for our fashionistos out there.  I seriously enjoyed the cascading patterns featured in a few of the dresses and trousers.  The line just speaks to his versatility and talent as a designer.

Show Review: Tribune Standard S/S14 Collection

Source: Style.com

Tribune Standard is rapidly becoming one of my favorite brands. I went to one of their presentations during fashion week a few years ago and their clothes are very well crafted. Some of the looks here are stripped down but manages to be very appealing and wearable. And let’s get into some of this pattern mixing…

Show Review: Zero + Maria Cornejo S/S14 Collection

Maria Carnejo pulled from different sources for her Spring 2014 collection. The desert, ancient civilizations and a mirror exhibition she saw at the Palais de Tokyo. It was choc full of very minimalist, bohemian looks and great prints. Most importantly these pieces look super comfortable to wear…

Show Review: Donna Karan S/S14 Collection

Source: Style.com
Source: Style.com

I immediately thought Donna Karan spent a lot of time at the Alamo when I first saw her collection but I loved it! The earthy color palette and southwestern touches (note the accessories) made for a very chic line . Her inspiration for the collection? “How to turn the sensuality and ease of a hand-blocked scarf into a chic urban wardrobe of day-into-night options.” (quote via WWD). This was apparent with the flowy dressy and skirts as well as the oversized button down shirts and outerwear. I also loved the geometric shapes and patterns in her prints…

Show Review: Tadashi Shoji S/S14 Collection

Source: Style.com
Source: Style.com

When it comes to fashion Tadashi Shoji, rarely gets it wrong. I can tell you after Roberte and I visited his showroom earlier this year, that the man is a master craftsman. He understands the body of the woman and his creations speak to that. Through his latest collection entitled “Sweet Liberation”, Shoji clearly wants to empower women and simultaneously maintain a feminine edge. His use of soft fabrics, like lace and organza helped him to achieve his objective…

NYFW Week Day 4: Victoria Beckham Elegant and Understated…per usual

VB

It is Day 4 of NYFW and Roberte and I still have a couple shows that we will be reporting back to you guys! For Vicki B’s Fall 2013 collection, she really played with fit, some dresses and skirts offered roomier silhouette’s without looking sloopy as well as ballooning shoulders. Of course it wouldn’t be a VB show without her signature sheath dresses included. The collection was almost bereft of color, I know traditionally color is reserved for spring and summer, but I plan on experimenting with more color the colder the weather gets.

NYFW Fall 2013: Day One: Show Review Tadashi Shoji

Tadashi Shoji
Tadashi Shoji

As always, the maestro Tadashi Shoji has spoken. This time around, the designer delivered another beautifully crafted collection.  When I hear Tadoshi Shoji, I immediately see red carpet events, and most of all, the Academy Awards. The big question that comes to mind is who will be the lucky lady (ies) that will walk the red carpet next Sunday in one of his coveted pieces.

Inspired by the splendor of the Russian Empire and the eventual fall of imperial rule, Shoji takes us on a journey to St. Petersburg, Russia by marrying aristocratic style with folkloric details, and pairing rich silks and cut velvets with soft silhouettes and traditional embroidered patterns enough to make any Russian royalty jealous.

We were happy to get an invite to the show, and we were not disappointed one bit.

I’m fortunate to own one of his dresses via Loehmann’s and it is to die for. His attention to details and ability to mix fabric, especially lace is impeccable. Here are a few looks from this fall 13 fashion show.
